Whether you’re trying to become the next Jay-Z, the next Katy Perry or you just pop the radio and singalong, music is undeniably a vital aspect to society – as are payments.

So we here at Payment Expert decided to reach out to industry figures to see what music means to them and hopefully help everyone “learn to treat life to the best, put stress to rest.”

DJ… SPIN THAT

This week Ian Johnson, head of Europe at payment card platform Marqeta, reveals his love for British music along with a sprinkling of Kevin Bacon…

PE: You’re entering a packed arena, what song blasts out?

Johnson: Sets the tone for whatever comes next. Doesn’t matter how exhausted I feel this will make me want to take on the day.

PE: What one song gets you in the mood for a boogie?

Johnson: For me this was the song of last summer and last summer was absolutely amazing – brilliant weather and lots of great times.

PE: What song would you consider a guilty pleasure?

Johnson: Saviours of British Pop, need I say more. Often found because people are snobby they dismiss it but I don’t care because that’s what people do and I think it’s a tune.

PE: What typifies your lazy Sunday?

Johnson: This song builds into an epic and glorious ending that makes you want to start your day – awesome tune, awesome band.

PE: What song reminds you of your childhood?

Johnson: Firstly it’s because I’m old and it gets stuck in my head but it still makes me dance like I’m not old… that is until I realise I’m still old and pull something!

PE: And finally, what’s your go to karaoke song?  Don’t worry… we won’t be asking for a recording!

Johnson: I’m sorry but I just don’t do karaoke. I can’t sing and nobody needs to hear me try no matter how drunk they are. Like cats fighting in the night…
