Gemalto launches digital platform for mobile subscriber enrollment

International digital security software provider Gemalto has announced the launch of its Trusted Digital Identity services platform.

The platform pulls together everything needed by mobile operators to digitalise customer enrollment including the capture, verification and authentication of customer credentials and biometrics.

Enrollment on to the platform can be done both in-store and online; the venture aims to draw on Gemalto’s experiences in verification services, as well as complementary services from trusted partners worldwide, to provide a “seamless digital customer journey”.

Gemalto hopes that with Trusted Digital Identity, mobile network operators (MNOs) can address challenges such as compliance with anti-fraud regulations as well as the need to implement far more efficient processes for customer enrollment.

“Anti-fraud regulations, the search for more streamlined processes, and customer expectations of convenient experience across all onboarding channels are driving the trend for digitalization of customer enrollment,” said Guillaume Lafaix, senior vice president Embedded Software, Mobile & IoT Services at Gemalto.

The first stage is to capture the customer’s personal details, using supporting evidence from a diversity of ID documents or other types of customer credentials, along with biometrics, including fingerprints and facial capture with liveness detection.

After this has been captured, the system verifies the authenticity of an ID document and once the customer’s details have been authenticated, enrollment is completed with the creation of a ‘Trusted Digital Identity’.

All the captured information is verified in real time using Gemalto Trusted Digital Identity services platform and, if required, third party checks can also be integrated.

Having a Trusted Digital Identity aims to provides consumers with easier access to ‘create once, use many times’ style model – allowing MNOs to focus on customer experience improvements.

Solutions can be tailored to the specific requirements of each individual MNO, and its subscribers.

Lafaxi continued: “What sets Gemalto apart is our ability to orchestrate a highly personalized solution, capturing the identity characteristics required by each particular MNO, addressing relevant legislation, and integrating all the technologies and services needed.”

Netherlands-based Gemalto is also set to achieve an industry-first with the announcement of the availability of 5G sims in 2019.
