Fingerprint Cards launches new biometric payment software platform

Swedish based biometrics company Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC) has announced a new software platform aimed to enable fingerprint payment cards, wearables and USB dongles.

With new payment authorisation solutions constantly emerging, the company unveiled its ‘FPC-BEP’ biometric software platform – powered by a new in-house algorithm.

The company stated results from in-house testing have presented a ‘False Rejection Rate of under 2% and a False Acceptance Rate of 1/20,000’.

“Biometric performance can only be optimized when you consider the whole package; hardware and software working in harmony,” commented Pontus Jägemalm, Chief Technology Officer at Fingerprints.

FPC’s new platform has been tailored to optimise the performance of its “small and power-efficient” biometric sensors for payments while maximising transaction speed, user convenience and security.

Jägemalm continued: “Our technology is used billions of times every day, and now we have poured our long and unrivalled experience from the mobile world into this software platform to maximize the performance in low-power and low-computing-power payment environments”.

The platform provides a range of advanced technological features such as FPC’s OneTouch technology for image capturing without a boot process, QuickTouch technology for image capture and verification, reportedly, in less than 0.3 seconds.

EvoTouch intelligent algorithm, which the company says learns and adapts to the user’s changing conditions and 360Touch technology to recognize the fingerprint regardless of angle or orientation.

The software platform can perform with either a 3rd party biometric algorithm or Fingerprints’ own, enabling consumers to benefit from a range of options.

Commercially available now, Fingerprint Cards plans to have the platform certified with payment authorities as part of an ongoing collaboration with payments stakeholders.
